Presenting: Bella Bae Lee!

Posted on April 17, 2020November 20, 2020 by johnlee84

Bella was born on April 7th at 5:32 am at 7 pounds, 6 oz.
Thank you for your prayers!
Greetings! As I write this announcement, I wonder how this message finds you.  In the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, we can find ourselves wading through an endless sea of unknowns.  For many of us, we’ve not only put our sense of normal on hold, but have been forced to surrender our plans, aspirations and expectations.  It’s easy to admit that we’re not in control in a season like this, but, oh, how easily we can forget that life-changing truth when we feel like things are “normal.” Thinking about Bella’s birth and  words of wisdom spoken to me in years past run through my mind as I reflect on this truth:

“A baby’s gonna come when it’s good and ready.”

For the last few weeks, we’ve been waiting for Bella to arrive.  With each passing day, I felt like a coil that was slowly being wound, tighter and tighter.  At times, I would seek the Lord and find peace in knowing he was in control, but other times I didn’t like living the reality of working according to God’s schedule.  As each day passed by, the baby seemed more likely to arrive. Simultaneously, we expected to see the first cases of COVID-19 in our area along with increased quarantine restrictions at our local hospital.  Discussing with our doctor how to respond to the situation, we planned to induce labor today at 6:30 am.

Baby Bella, however, decided that she would begin her descent early.   After three hours of labor, she made her first appearance with a delightful cry at 5:32 am!  The staff report that Bella is healthy and that Jo Beth is beginning her recovery with a good start.  We are so thankful for your prayers, practical help, and ways that you have spoken into our lives along the way.  Thank you!

As I look over to see little Bella squirming and cooing, I reflect on the many months of waiting.  I sometimes struggled with trusting God and living according to His timing, but now that I see the precious gift before us I am only grateful that the Lord was in complete control.   It reminds me that living by faith is not intuitive but is a gift that allows us to embrace the certainty that God is working things out to the very best end–better than we can imagine.

According to that faith, I ask for your prayers for Bella according to Psalm 139:13-18:

For you created my inmost being;
you knit me together in my mother’s womb.
I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made;
your works are wonderful,
I know that full well.
My frame was not hidden from you
when I was made in the secret place,
when I was woven together in the depths of the earth.
Your eyes saw my unformed body;
all the days ordained for me were written in your book
before one of them came to be.
How precious to me are your thoughts [concerning me], God!
How vast is the sum of them!
Were I to count them,
they would outnumber the grains of sand—
when I awake, I am still with you.
I only ask that you would meditate on this passage and pray for her as the Spirit leads.  We desire to grow as parents and to see Bella grow into a woman of God.  Likewise, I’d encourage you to consider this passage as you reflect on the state of your heart right now.  Whether in fear of the pandemic, lack of job security, concern for loved ones or things completely unrelated to events in the news, let’s ask for the Lord’s help to live the reality that He is in control so that, “when I awake, I am still with you.”  I trust that he will lead us from there.

Walking beside you in this journey of faith, John & Jo Beth Lee

P.S.  The name Bella was set on our hearts and we’ve been meditating on its meaning, “beautiful”.  The Lord led us to the following verse and prayer theme:

Do not let your adorning be external–the braiding of hair and the putting on of gold jewelry, or the clothing you wear–but let your adorning be the hidden person of the heart with the imperishable beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which in God’s sight is very precious. 1 Peter 3:3-4

As you feel led, please join us in praying that Bella would be beautiful in God’s eyes, “with the imperishable beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit.”  May Jo Beth and I be good stewards of her precious life.

Prayer Requests

Team: We’re scattered now but are working to keep our team moving forward in unity despite the many different transitions we’re facing in this season. We are growing!  Melanie Brunell and Sarah Roberts have joined our team and are raising support to join us in Tokyo whenever the Lord provides the needed support. Please pray for us to each embrace ministry right where we’re at, whether virtually or in person.

Welcoming Melanie and Sarah to the Team!

Small Church Network:  Pray for the three Small Churches and for the Japanese church to carry the gospel out into their communities during this unpredictable time.  Pray that they would live in the perfect love that drives out fear so that they would shine in the midst of this tumultuous time.

Family: Please pray for us as we get adjusted to life as a family of five.  Alongside our changing roles in parenting, please remember our marriage.  We ask wisdom and courage to shepherd Brooke and Bonnie well through all of these transitions. As mentioned previously, please pray for my dad who is awaiting the next step of treatment for his heart.  Please pray that he would trust in the Lord in new ways and find himself delighting in Jesus Christ no matter his health.  In this, please pray for wisdom for John’s family as we work together to support him through all of this.
